Hola todos! My name is Karla Parra and I was born and raised in Mexico. My mother is from the U.S., so I have lived here since 2003, going to college in NY and France, and recently working in Communications at a global company in CT and London. I am currently searching the opportunity to work and pursue my Master's degree in D.C. and am very glad to have found this networking site, which I hope will help me navigate this new professional endeavor.

I would really like to join a government agency or NGO in D.C. and be able to utilize my Hispanic background and language skills to the benefit of the Latino community in the U.S. If anyone has any recommendations as to organizations to take a look at or any other advice on navigating the job world in D.C., I'd greatly appreciate it! I'll be in D.C. for the job fair on Sept 24 and hope to meet many of you there!

Hola Ricardo and the DC Group!
My name is Esther-Marie Merz I just moved to Washington DC after having lived for 5 years in Buenos Aires. I was working there as a
Latin America correspondent for different european broadcasting companies. It was not in my plans to move to Washington as I left Europe once in order to install myself in Buenos Aires and make my living there. But personal changes made me move, so here I am, far away from my dear Latin America. I am interested in getting more information about the Latino-Community in the US. I am always looking for stories that are a little bit different from what the media usually use to show us. And my experience from the last 5 years is, that the true stories are with the people. So I'm looking forward to meet people who might like to tell me their story or just exchange some Argentinian or Latinamerican souvenirs! And if somebody can tell me where is a good place to dance Argentinian Tango I would be very thankful!

Hi Everyone - I've been a member of the NSHP network all of about 30 minutes or so!

I was born in NY, grew up in NJ and went to school in Boston and Wisconsin before settling down in the DC area.

I was a partner at a DC law firm until I left to start my own law firm last year. My practice areas focus on employment and employee benefits consulting and litigation, I also consult small and minority-owned businesses.

I'm glad to be a part of this community!

Hello everyone.
My name is Carlos De Souza and I have been a member of the NSHP network for several months but had yet to introduce myself. I was born and raised early on in Caracas, Venezuela. My family moved to Miami where I spent most of my school years. I have lived in Venezuela, Mexico, East and West Coast of the US, spent a little time in Europe and I have been in Virginia for the last nine years.

I have always worked in the restaurant/bar industry. I am currently the Food & Beverage Director at the National Gallery of Art in DC for Restaurant Associates. I have worked worked for mom & pop restaurants, mid to large size corporate chains and even co-owned a cafe in Miami.
I am interested in getting more involved in the area with other Hispanic professionals.

My Hispanic connection is this: I've been traveling to Latin America for almost 30 years, for business and pleasure; and my wife is from Chile. I love speaking and studying Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

As Rafael said before me, it is both an honor and a priviledge to become the 51st member of the Washington Chapter. I am Puertorican by way of Cleveland/Lorain, Ohio.
